Mattel's Barbie Focuses on Careers

You Can Be Anything is an ingenious way for Mattel to promote the ‘new’ Barbie. Let’s face it; girls still love to play with Barbie dolls or dolls similar to the fashionista Barbie.

Mattel’s website shares the rationale: “For 56 years, Barbie has been inspiring girls to be whatever they want to be by leading by example.”  The new ads are part of a 12-month campaign that focuses more on the millennial parents than their children. The campaign includes social media, and (finally!), more ethnic diversity in the dolls.  Check out this non-scripted video. The little “actresses” were asked to behave like what they wanted to be when they grew up and their aspirations are inspiring. Enjoy!
