For immediate release: August 18, 2006 CHRYSALIS FOUNDATION HOSTS SERIES OF EVENTS HONORING “WOMEN AT GROUND ZERO” AND LOCAL “SHE-ROES” The Chrysalis Foundation of Des Moines will host several events leading up to a special luncheon on Monday, September 11: “Women at Ground Zero: Honoring the Women Heroes of 9/11”. On the 5 th anniversary of the attacks at the World Trade Center , authors Susan Hagen and Mary Carouba, and 2 women from the Fire Department of New York who were on duty at Ground Zero, will share a multi-media presentation of the stories of the women heroes who gave their all on that terrible day. The stories represent the voices of women captured in Carouba and Hagen ’s book Women at Ground Zero – Stories of Courage and Compassion. The luncheon will be held on Monday, September 11 at the Polk County Convention Center from 11:30 to 1 p.m. and is open to the public. Tickets are $30 per person. Preceding the luncheon, Chrysalis will honor local women serving in police, fire, emergency, health, and other aligned professions for 2 panel presentations. Moderated by volunteer Mary Brubaker , the presentations are free and open to the public, and will be: Wednesday, August 30 – 7:30-8:30 a.m. in the Waveland Hall, Plymouth Congregational Church ( 4126 Ingersoll Avenue ) Wednesday, September 6 – 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room of the Central Branch, Des Moines Library ( 1000 Grand Avenue ) Registration information on all events can be found on the Foundation website: www.chrysalisfdn.org, or by calling the Chrysalis office, 255-1853. Founded in 1989, Chrysalis is a Des Moines-based foundation supporting women and girls in central Iowa . It was awarded over $2.7 million to local nonprofit organizations; its signature program, Chrysalis After-School , is entering its 9 th year in 25 local schools.
