Chrysalis Foundation 2009-10 Community Grant Guidelines

Our Mission: The Chrysalis Foundation develops strong girls and women in Greater Des Moines through education, grant making, and philanthropy.

Our Priorities: Through its mission, Chrysalis works to ensure that girls and women have opportunities and resources for economic self-sufficiency and leadership development.
 
Definitions:
Economic self-sufficiency: Having sufficient assets to meet basic needs, including the knowledge, skills, and ability to access available community support and resources.
 
Leadership Development: Having the skills, strength, and ability to make decisions, probem-solve, and influence others.
 
Types of Support:
The Chrysalis Foundation will award up to $100,000 to organizations in Polk, Warren, and Dallas Counties in Iowa to organizations and projects aligning with its mission and priorities through 3 Grant Funds.
 
To be considered, all interested applicants must have a current Organization Profile on file with the Chrysalis Foundation and the profile must be updated annually.

Community Partner Fund:
The deadline for this application has now passed.  New application information will be available on or before September 2010.

Rapid Response Fund:
Grants up to $500 for unforeseen, immediate, or time-sensitive needs of nonprofit organizations or female clients of nonprofit organizations.
  • Priority will be given to needs that identify measurable results and are most likely to ensure success.
  • Decisions will be communicated within 3 business days of receipt of application.
  • Organizations are limited to 1 award per 6 month period.
  • Organizations must identify and report measurable results and indicator of success.
  • Decision communicated within 3 business days of receipt Check issued upon approval to qualified nonprofit organization*

Chrysalis First Fund:

  • Limited funding for unique opportunities and ideas that extend the reach of the Foundation mission and provide innovative, entrepreneurial solutions to unmet needs of girls and women.
  • What can Chrysalis do to improve the future for girls and women? What do we want to have happen? What can we prevent?
  • Funding has already been awarded for 2009.  Watch for the new application information in September 2010.
  • 2009 Chrysalis First Fund Awardee: Children and Family Urban Ministries.

Eligibility: 

To be eligible for Chrysalis Community Grant funds, organization's mission or program focus must align with Chrysalis mission and priorities.  They also must:

  • Hold 501(c)(3), 509(a)(1), or 509(a)(2) status;
  • Enlist fiscal agent with 501(c)(3) status;
  • Complete and submit Organization Profile (attached) and/or update information on file with Chrysalis;
  • Serve girls and/or women from Polk, Warren, and/or Dallas County in Iowa;
  • Agree to Terms of Grant Award including participating in Women’s Alliance activities and collaborative learning meetings hosted by Chrysalis (specific to type of grant).

Restrictions:

Chrysalis does not provide funding for:

  • Advertising in promotional materials;
  • Athletic teams;
  • Capital campaigns;
  • Child care center;
  • Operating expenses;
  • Debt reduction;
  • Endowment campaigns;
  • Event sponsorships;
  • Fund raising campaigns
  • General operations of disease-specific organizations
  • Individual political campaigns
  • Programs inconsistent with federal, state, and local nondiscrimination statutes programs that promote religious activities or specific religious beliefs
  • Scholarships, scholarship programs, or fellowships scientific or medical research.
